Tulane vs. LSU 2nd Half

Wave grab their 10th victory of the year, 68-63 defeating LSU for the first time since 1982 in the NIT. A big win for the Green Wave is simply an understatement.

9.0 Martin air-balls a three and Wheaton grabs the rebound. Tulane then runs out the clock to loud applause from the crowd.

16.2 Randolph misses the jumper and Stith gets the rebound. He is then fouled by Spencer and will shoot two free throws. Stith hits both for a Wave 5 point lead.


LSU calls its last timeout as the crowd comes to its feet. The big thing here is that the Tigers need a three to tie.


24.0 Martin then fouls Puckett in the lane. He has two huge free throws coming up. Puckett hits 1 of 2 for a three point Tulane lead.


52.1 Randolph miss is corralled by Stith.

1:07 left and 31 on the shot clock. LSU will inbounds from half-court.


1:13 Puckett with a big basket in the lane as the Wave now lead by two with just over a minute left. LSU calls their last full timeout, they have just a 30 left.

1:47 Thornton commits the foul on Gomez, who will have two free throws. Gomez hits the first and then the second. The loose ball goes off of Martin and the Wave will have the ball tied at 63.

2:15 Randolph hits both and LSU back up by a point. Dickerson calls a 30 second timeout at a crucial juncture

2:45 LSU turnover on the pass attempted for Randolph. Sims brings it up but Stith turns it over. Randolph is fouled on the other end by Gomez and will have two big free throws.

3:12 Mayhanne at the line after a foul on Thornton. He hits both and the Wave now up by 1

3:13 Randolph dunks the ball off of the LSU miss and the Tigers lead by 1.

3:50 LSU will have the ball down 60-57 after a Tulane foul. Randolph will shoot two free throws. First free throw is good as is the second. LSU down 1 and in the full court press. Gomez can't handle the ball and it'll be LSU ball

4:16 Wheaton hits the front end of a one-and-one and then the second to give the Wave a three point lead.

4:47 Spencer hits a three as the Wave now lead by just 1. Louisme missed a gimme layup on the other end on the Wave's previous possession

7:06 Puckett comes away with the offensive rebound but is called for traveling as he falls down

7:39 Great defense by the Wave on the defensive end as Louisme first blocks a Mason shot and then comes away with the rebound. Thornton then called for the loose-ball foul.

8:03 Gomez will shoot two free throws after he is fouled by Randolph, his 4th. Gomez hits both free throws as the Wave now lead by 4.

8:20 Wheaton commits the turnover which turns into a fastbreak opportunity at the other end for Randolph. Stith commits the foul saving an easy basket. Wave continue to lead 56-54.

9:12 After a Mayhanne missed dunk, Dameon Mason is fouled in the lane and hits the shot. He will have a three point opportunity, which he misses. LSU comes away with the offensive rebound however. Randolph air-balls a jumper and Tulane comes away with it.

9:52 A great pass from Sims to Gomez and he converts easily. Temple answers on the other end with a three that cuts the Wave lead to 4.

10:40 LSU once again beats the shot clock as Temple hits a three to cut the lead to 5. It was an NBA range three that Temple converted

11:38 A thunderous block by Stith and a Sims three pointer at the other end extends the Wave lead to 8 at 54-46

11:48 Johnny Mayhanne nearly completes his own personal 7-0 run, but his layup rolls in and out. Mayhanne hit a three pointer and then scored on a layup before missing the current attempt. Wave now have their biggest lead of the game at 51-46.

13:50 Sims drives the lane against the 2-3 zone LSU was in and makes the layup. Wave up 46-43.

14:56 A big foul on Anthony Randolph, his 3rd as he has to exit the ball game. Sims hits two free throws to give the Wave a 3 point cushion. Sims then plays excellent defense on Temple forcing him to call a timeout.

15:24 LSU will have a three point opportunity as Puckett commits the foul on Martin as he drove the lane. Martin converts and the Wave again lead by 1

16:32 Sims hits a three pointer to extend the Wave lead to 4, 42-38.

17:00 A tough baseline jumper is good by Marcus Thornton of LSU. The seesaw affair sees the Wave lead by 1

18:05 A double whammy for LSU as Johnson commits the turnover and injured his thumb on the play

19:00 Louisme hits a floater in the lane, as the Wave lead by 1.

19:30 Johnson hits a baseline jumper to give the lead back to LSU

19:53 Randolph commits the offensive foul and Matt Wheaton puts in the reverse layup to give the Wave a one point lead.
