As many of you may know, the Green Wave knocked off Gardner-Webb (yes, the same one that upset Kentucky earlier this year) 84-79 on Saturday. Donnie Stith broke out for 15 points and 10 rebounds while Kevin Sims added 19. For the second home game in a row, the officials were having trouble with the shot and game clocks as play was interrupted a number of times.
Player of the Game: Donnie Stith
If Stith played to his potential like this all the time, the Green Wave would be one of the top three teams in Conference USA. He's already a weapon on the defensive end but never seems to have put it all together on the offensive side of the ball. It seems the key to success for the Green Wave involves getting good games out of Sims, Robinson Gomez, and one of the guards (Mayhane/Vianney/Wheaton) and one of the forwards (Stith/Louisme/Puckett). Gomez had another relatively quiet night and has really been a disappointment so far this season. Dickerson said earlier in the year he wanted Gomez to score around 15-17 points a game, but instead it looks like he's taken a step back from last season.

The Green Wave grabbed 15 more rebounds (46-31) than Gardner-Webb thanks to the performances of Stith and Asim McQueen (who had 7 boards). Both teams shot fairly well, but Tulane's size and quickness advantage really won them the game.

"This is a good win for us because Gardner-Webb is a very good team. It's no fluke that they beat Kentucky at Kentucky. They came in here and played 40 minutes of solid basketball, but give credit to our team. We made unbelievable plays and had 19 offensive rebounds. Donnie Stith was our best player of the day without a doubt with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Without his effort, there is no way we win the game, and that is what a senior is supposed to do and Donnie did it today."
Next Up: The Green Wave will take on Indiana State in Fogelman Arena next Monday, December 17th. They'll be looking to avenge a 59-47 loss to the Sycamores last season in the house that Larry Bird built.
