Alabama State Recap

After a very slow start, the Wave picked up the intensity in the second half going on a 7-0 run to begin the period. David Gomez was one of three players in double figures, leading Tulane with 28 points in 32 minutes of action. He also became the 14th player in Tulane history to record 1000 rebounds.
Kevin Sims nearly picked up a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 9 assists. Head Coach Dave Dickerson said this was a big win for the Wave despite Alabama State being from the SWAC.
"I told our guys that this was a big game for this program; if we lose, we're back to where we started when I first came here."
After a fiery halftime speech, Dickerson relied heavily on his seniors namely Gomez.
"He got on us a little bit, I'm not gonna lie,"Gomez said.
Dickerson also praised the play of his young point guard.
"Sims was amazing for us tonight, he kept the guys calm when Alabama (State) made their run."
Up next for the Wave is the hated LSU Tigers at the New Orleans Arena on January 2nd. The Tigers come in with a lot to prove after a very slow start to their season. However, Gomez is well aware of the threat that LSU can pose.
"They're still looking for an identity but the main thing is that they're still very athletic, which can create a lot of problems."
