Toledo Press Conference

Went to the press conference this week with Toledo and he said a few key things....

Biggest weakness on their team is their physical strength and stamina. Most college teams he says has 40-50 guys capable of benching 400 pounds. Tulane only has 2. That is a big reason why they wore down in the second half against a much stronger SEC team.

Also, Scott Eliot is day to day, and he may be able to play on saturday, but he is not sure yet. I personally feel like he wont.

Anthony Aldridge, a Univeristy of Houston running back on the pre season Doak Walker award list (best running back in the country), concerns Coach Toledo the most. "Everytime he touches the ball he can take it to the house."

Houston, even though they lost Kevin Kolb, still clearly has an explosive offense. They were able to put up 27 points on Oregon, who manage to hold the University of Michigan to 7 points. So if Tulane wants to win this game, its gonna be a shootout. And the combined score of the past two meetings between these teams is 69-10. Not looking too good for the Green Wave

Only two? That's pretty sad -- they need to recuit some stronger kids.

Good stuff. The programs Toledo is referring to are established BCS conference teams in good recruiting areas. Even Boise St. probably didn't have 50 guys who could bench 400+.

What's important isn't how much they can bench, but rather toughness and aggressiveness of the players. Tackling ability is huge as well -- how many times did the MSU running back just pummle linebackers on his way to the endzone? A shoe-string tackle and he's down easily, but taking him on one-on-one and trying to tackle him above the waist will get you destroyed.

yea, Toledo really likes strength though. he said all the redshirted kids are working about 4 times a week right now and that will continue throughout the offense. so in the coming years their stamina and strength should improve. also, for the future of the program, expect the tradition of great qbs to continue. Toledo is a former qb, and was able to produce nfl players at the qb position at UCLA. he should not have a problem getting a good qb to come here and then develop him
